As a physical educator I have many goals and expectations based upon my personal philosophy. By basing my teaching style,
classroom management, and assessment styles off of this philosophy I will have a well developed and rounded career as a physical
educator. My first area would by my teaching style and instruction as a physical educator.
I will combine different styles in order to create an atmosphere where I set up all my students for success and not
failure. As a physical educator I will of course use the basis of direct instruction with my students. This will be only the
base and I will continually build of this style for my enhancement and growth. Cooperative style teaching is important and
I will use this very much in my class room. By allowing students to take roles as teachers and educator and help teach other
students they will learn the material better and help other students succeed as well.
Cooperative teaching styles work very much so from my own experience, using this style I have led many lessons where
the students are excited to take charge of their own learning and teach other students what they may already know. This will
also create a management basis by creating more time for me to be more of a facilitator and not a direct instruction teacher. By combining this with direct instruction many students will receive education in
many different forms and if they lack in one area will hopefully succeed in another in return helping them gain as much out
of my class as possible.
Classroom management is vital and I have my own philosophy and ideas set about it at this point and time. My classroom
management is primarily based upon Kounin’s model. As a teacher my classroom management will be based upon my ability
to plan for my lessons and all aspects. Bad classroom management comes from poor planning on the teacher’s behalf. As
a physical educator I will not ever leave my class unattended and create lessons that will keep the students interest by being
challenging as well as enjoyable to the students. Simply put I believe in the idea of withitness or the ability to know and
understand my students and what is going on at all times. I will try to act with a management problem before it becomes a
problem.
It is from my own experience that teachers that can not plan for students and management problems end up in management
problems. I will need to be able to know what is going on at all times in my classroom in order to maintain proper management.
I have seen where teachers that focus primarily on one or two students talking have over seen the other students that may
be having difficulties with the lesson or the students that are keeping other students off task.
My goal and philosophy of assessment is very important for setting all my students up for success. I believe in using
multiple assessment types for all students for diversity and success. Many students may not be good at taking paper pencil
tests or good at just physical rubric test and may fail even though they are able to succeed in many different ways or areas.
I will use formal and informal assessments like portfolios, tests, rubrics, and many more. If I can use many different forms
that a students will have more odds of doing better on certain ones where they may not be able to succeed at the others.
In conclusion my philosophy is broad and for the most part may not be perfect. This is why I believe in a changing
philosophy while I grow and learn as a professional teacher. I will learn many new things and ideas that will work better
than others. Being able to take this new information and adapt it and be flexible will help me grow as a teacher and a person.
It is the people that will not change no matter what that fail and set their students up for failure. I will grow, learn,
and teach my ideas and philosophy so that I will always set my students up for success not failure.
